Converting from Smart Address 5.0
Upgrading to
Smart Address 5.5 when Sharing Address Books Over the
Network.
In Smart Address 5.5 a
new personal, or Standalone, database format was
introduced. This provides an internal database in Smart
Address which is not shareable between different users.
As part of the install of Smart Address 5.5, the setup
would have converted your existing Database to the new
Standalone database and uninstalled the old X2Net
Server. In this mode, your Smart Address Database will
only be available to the Windows User who installed
Smart Address 5.5
If you wish to share
your Address Books with other users, you will need to
install the new X2Net Server and migrate your database.
To do this, please follow these steps.
-
Start Smart
Address. Check that you are connected to the
Standalone Database (see the Smart Address
client's status bar). If you are not connected to
the Standalone Database, use the File,
Database, Standalone Database menu command
to connect to the Standalone Database
-
Use Smart Address'
File, Backup menu command to backup
the Standalone Database
-
Close Smart Address
-
-
Once installed,
start Smart Address and use Smart Address' File,
Database, Remote Database menu command to
connect to the new X2Net Server.
-
Once connected, you
will be asked if you want to connect to a new
Database. Select the Create a New Database
option.
-
Once the database
has been created and the Smart Address Client is
opened, use the File, Restore menu
command to restore the file you created in (2)
above.
