(2) Minor enhancements
Smart Address 5.5 (Client build
5.5.0.567)
(1) Smart Address 5.5 no longer uses a Login to identify the
user, but now uses the Windows User Name (under Windows NT4 or later) or the
User Name Single User (under Windows 9x or ME).
Note when upgrading on Windows 9x or ME: Smart Address no longer supports
multi-users on Windows 9x or ME. When starting Smart Address 5.5 all
existing data will be assigned to a new user name of Single User
Note when upgrading on Windows NT4 of Later: If you use a different
Windows User Name from the User Name you use to login to Smart Address with,
you will need to reassign the old user name using the File, Database
Properties screen. For example: You use to login to Smart Address as John
and login to Windows as John.Smith . In this case, when Smart Address
has started, use the File, Database, Database Properties menu, highlight
John in the User List and then click the Reassign.. button to
reassign the data to the new John.Smith user. Failure to do this,
will leave any data assigned to the old John user name.
(2) The Home Page View has been removed. Due to problems with the Home Page,
resulting in errors and slow start-up times, Smart Address 5.5 has removed
the Home Page view which summarized an Address Book's content.
(3) By default, Smart Address 5.5 now uses an internal personal, or
Standalone, database. This database is accessible only by the
Windows User who is running Smart Address. This change removes the need for
a separate Server to be run, meaning Smart Address runs faster and uses less
resources on the computer.
Multi-User support is still available (for Windows NT4 or later clients), by
downloading and installing the new X2Net Server. When a Server has been
installed on the network, clients can switch between the Standalone Database
and a Remote Database by using Smart Address' File, Database menu command.
Note when upgrading: The setup for Smart Address 5.5 will detect any
existing X2Net Server and after converting the existing Database to the new
Personal (Standalone) database, it will uninstall and remove the X2Net
Server from the computer. If you wish to continue to share your Address
Books over a network, you will need to install a new X2Net Server and
migrate your database to the new server. Full details for this can be found
